Strangest things people have insured?

We like some light-hearted stories at The Cheapest Life Insurance as while there is always a serious connotation to getting cover, there are some things which put things into a new perspective.

So in today’s blog we’re going to take a look at some of the strangest things people have taken out insurance for.

Ken  Dodd, one of the UK’s most well-known comedians was in the  Guinness Book of Records for the world’s longest joke telling session.  He amassed 1500 jokes in just 3.5 hours.  Ken Dodd has had a very successful career, having sold more than 100 million comedy records and his infamous teeth, which have been the butt of his own jokes for years are so important to his act, that he had them insured for $7.4 Million dollars!

Remember the River Dance?  Well Michael Flatley insured his legs for a staggering $47 Million dollars, which is pretty impressive you might say!

Does anyone remember that little fox Basil Brush?  Well in 2003 the little fellow had his tail insured for £1 Million!  Boom, boom!

In 2001, the National Sealife Centre located in Birmingham took out insurance on its visitors.  The reason?  They needed to cover against death and permanent disability for the Japanese Giant Crab!

For all those ghost hunters out there, you may have felt a little safer at the Royal Falcon Hotel in Lowestoft, after it insured its staff and its customers against disability and death from poltergeist activity.  £1 Million of cover is frightening!

If you’re an employer in the UK you can actually insure yourself against having two or more employees quitting if they happen to win the lottery!  Basically the policy pays out if your company loses a minimum of two employees during the same draw. While the likelihood is actually very slim it could happen!

This is a favourite for us but should you wish, you can insure yourself against alien abduction.  In the USA more than $10 Million has been written in the name of aliens.  How you prove you’ve been abducted may of course be a little tricky to prove perhaps?

Nessie or the Loch Ness Monster has been talked about for decades.  While some feel it will never be found, the Cutty Sark Company as a $1.5 Million dollar prize for whoever captures it.  The company took out a policy to cover any potential losses and even has a policy that will pay out if someone finds Nessie and puts him or her on a leash!

No doubt, while there is the realm of possibility people will want to get insured.  While this blog is jovial and looks at the lighter side, getting life insurance is actually an important part of life.  After all, you can never guarantee for sure that something won’t happen!
