New Fitness craze, Bikram Yoga.

Bikram Yoga (Otherwise known as hot yoga) is a new fitness craze that is sweeping the nation. Within this 90 minute class you can expect to complete 26 postures and 2 breathing exercises in 40 degree heat. It has been called the ‘most challenging and effective Yoga class in the world’ but is exercising in this heat really beneficial for your health? The Cheapest Life Insurance investigates.

There are many different pros and cons to Bikram Yoga that you should be aware of before trying out this class. Bikram yoga is very similar to normal yoga aside from the heat. Below are some of the Pros and Cons of Bikram yoga:

Pros:

  • Gives you great skin – You will sweat a lot from this class which will help you to get rid of your impurities within your skin.
  • You will find that the high temperatures will make your muscles feel loose, which is a great way to increase your core strength.
  • As long as you don’t suffer from any lung issues such as asthma, Bikram yoga can be great for your lungs, as the hot, dry air will open up your airways.
  • It can help you lose weight

Cons:

  • Because you are sweating so much throughout the session you are at risk of being dehydrated.
  • It is very common to feel lightheaded and even nauseous throughout the session and even after the session.
  • Bikram yoga puts your body through unnecessary stress which can make you feel weak and tired.
  • It requires sensibility and restraint, if you are not careful and force your body to do things it isn’t used to you may have an injury.

 

As you can see there are equal amounts of pros and cons to Bikram yoga which makes it impossible to advise whether or not it is beneficial. So whether or not you decide to have a go at Bikram yoga make sure that you are careful and keep yourself hydrated!
