The Mail Online has recently reported that stem cell treatment helps dead hair follicles to grow again, according to research from the University of Pennsylvania. But is this the breakthrough all of us with thinning or receding hair lines have been waiting for? In today’s blog the Cheapest Life Insurance investigates…
Researchers believe that they may be able to make a treatment for baldness, by using stem cells, in order to regrow missing or dying follicles. Scientists have been trying to create a number of methods to help with the regrowth of hair but now may finally have a solution!
Researchers from the University of Pennsylvania have advised that they are getting closer to finding a cure and are almost able to use stem cells to treat thinning hair, although they have so far only tested on mice and have yet to test on humans.
Within a University news release Dr. Xiaowei Xu, who is an associate professor of dermatology at Penn’s Perelman School of Medicine said: “This is the first time anyone has made scalable amounts of epithelial stem cells that are capable of generating the epithelial component of hair follicles,”
He then carried on saying: “When a person loses hair, they lose both types of cells,”
“We have solved one major problem, the epithelial component of the hair follicle. We need to figure out a way to also make new dermal papillae cells, and no one has figured that part out yet.”
So is it simply a matter of time until there is a cure for thinning or balding hair? The answer is who knows? There have been a lot of stories within the news regarding breakthrough trials for baldness cures, in the last year alone, from Laser Helmets, to growing human papillae (cells that are at the root of human hair). One of these trials may just be the breakthrough that we have been waiting for!
