The 20th of January 2014 is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, to celebrate the birthday of the historical civil rights leader. This day was selected a national holiday within America in 1983 to remember Martin Luther King Jr. Some people within America will often volunteer on this holiday to honour him and everything that he stood for.
On this day most banks apart from a small few will be closed, as well as Government offices, public schools, libraries and many other places will be closed within America today.
Martin Luther King Jr. was a civil rights leader who delivered a speech in Washington D.C at the Lincoln Memorial on the 28th of August 1963, known today as ‘I Have a Dream’. Within this speech he described his vision of an America that was not separated into races and that Black people has the same rights as White people.
King is remembered for giving extra a push to the movement in the 1960’s which ultimately led to eliminating many racial biases and attitudes against back people.
